Work(s) In Progress

STILL LIFE

These still life photos were taken in the 3rd Workshop of the semester. This gave us chance to focus on framing, lighting and the overall look of the composition. These 2 photos below are examples of the work that I took when first getting to use with the camera and its settings.

Still Life WIP1

I like the look of this photo because of the contrasting colours presented (Pink and Blue). As well as this, the use of white at the very top of the glass draws the audiences’ attention to just above centre frame, and the petals of the flower act as leading lines towards all other aspects of the composition.

Still Life WIP2

This is an interesting photo because of the sheer difference in the 2 objects within the frame, as well as the colour contrast. As well as this, with the use of a secondary light to the left of the frame, I was able to create an interesting shadow from the lemon, making it look like a 2nd spherical object atop the marble block.

PORTRAIT

These photos were taken in the photograph studio. This gave us a further understanding on lighting, as well as aperture and shutter speeds as when these were changed and altered, the outcome of the portrait was different.

This is a very clear photo in terms of composition and has a very sharp focus. Also, the use of key lighting allowed clear focus on individual features of the subject’s face.

Although slightly too over-exposed, the use of the lighting here places emphasis on the subject’s face, and subsequent smile. Also, the slight reflection of light in the glasses lenses and specifically the glasses frame, act as a leading line to other aspects of the composition.
