I decided to take portraits of 2 girls, who were both friends. When I approached them to ask to take their photo, they seemed very enthusiastic about the prospect, and later told me they had an interest in photography and the creative sector – something that made this encounter a lot easier to work with, as they were very relaxed and friendly.
I really liked this photo, as a lot of emotion can be seen on the girl’s face. Therefore, I edited the colour temperature of the portrait slightly in order to reflect this more negative and ‘fed up’ mood, whilst also changing the aperture of the lens in order to let less light in, creating a darker mood to the composition overall.
With this photo, however, the girl can be seen to be in a much happier mood, therefore I increased the aperture of the lens in order to let more light into the camera and therefore create a much lighter image, showing her lighter mood in comparison to the first, slightly darker photo. This girl in particular was very friendly and gave me many photos to work with – these being my 2 favourites due to the lighting as well as the facial expressions given, making the composite more interesting overall.
The other girl I took photos of, Evie, was also a very nice girl. However, she was slightly quieter and more timid than Phoebe, and I therefore tried to mimic this in the photos I took of her. Both photos below have a much colder colour temperature to that of the photos of Phoebe, and this is to show a much cooler tone to the composition as a whole. The fact that Evie is looking directly into the camera, especially in the second photo, with an almost cold look, gives the audience a sense of intrigue as well as un-comfort, therefore by lowering the colour temperature of the piece, this icy stare is mimicked in her surroundings.
